Scenery in modelling is important if you want to have a feel of immersion into the battle. It is much more fun to play a game with hills, trees, rocks and rivers. Also constructions or fortifications are always nice additions to make the battlefield more interesting and can easily lead to psychological behavior modifications in an adversary.
