I started collecting and modelling High Elves in 1993. The first units I purchased were 2 archers in a blister and also a repeater bolt thrower (RBT) in another blister. All of that for about 12$. It was still expensive at the time but nowadays you can really see the inflation. An RBT is about 30$ all by itself.
Over time, I accumulated many more models. The initial real improvement was to purchase the boxed game. Warhammer 4th edition contained about 40 High Evles. I did paint many of them but I bought them faster than I could paint them. 😆

When it comes to face enemies, I like to engage them at a distance as much as possible. It depends of course who you are facing. An enemy Empire army could have tons of warmachines that would cripple you faster than you could cripple them. But as a general rule, I like to have the ability to concentrate fire on a given enemy or to spread my fire amongst various units. Then the RBTs also play their role and their targets can be chose independently. That gives some backbone constant DPS to my army and projects power across the battlefield with long range bows and RBTs. Mages can also play their part in weakening the enemy from a distance.
